Ad Astra Media took part in the first annual STEM Community Exploration Event hosted by Brooks Crossing Innovation & Opportunity Center (BCIOC). Over 256 students and their families engaged in hands-on STEM experiences like making their own mini lava lamps at our booth! We combine education and entertainment to better connect with kids to show them a diverse representation in S.T.E.A.M. professions, and to have role models for which they can aspire.

One great role model and special guest speaker at the STEM Community Exploration Event was Dr. Christine Darden (shown in picture). A local figure and role model, Dr. Christine Darden became a data analyst for NASA at Langley Research Center, followed by a career as an aerospace engineer in 1973. She spent four decades at NASA, where she became the first African American to hold the highest position at the Langley Research Center. Amazing to see history in person!

Other guest speakers such Julie Williams-Byrd, the center chief technologist at Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, and Dr. Janice Underwood, the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia, also spoke to students and their families.

Chris Long, Flight Systems Engineering Manager for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, MD., highlighted the launch of the James Webb

Space Telescope.

Our founder and CEO, Dr. Jose Morey, referred to as Dr. Intergalactic, formed Ad Astra Media when he recognized the lack of diversity in STEM careers at corporate level meetings. He founded Ad Astra Media to lead the world's future Einstein's to achieve equal representation in STEM professions. We are glad for the opportunity to be a part of such a great event that showcased to kids that STEM IS COOL!
